Chrysler Group has been named Company of the Year by the National Minority Supplier Development Council. This award was given in recognition for Chrysler’s efforts in providing more opportunities for minority suppliers. The company has spent over $52 billion in purchases from suppliers that are minority owned.

The company is known for its innovation in designing automobiles, but it is just as advanced in its business relations. It has developed new programs such as High Focus and Matchmaker that helps create new opportunities for suppliers as part of its commitment to diversity. The Matchmaker program is in its 15th year and works with minority-owned, veteran-owned and women-owned businesses.

One of the goals of Chrysler is that 16.5% of the purchases from the Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers must be from minority suppliers. The company worked with around 200 of these suppliers in 2013.

The High Focus program began in 2011. The company selects suppliers who have high potential and provides the tools they need to achieve their goals in diversity spend status.

With this award, Chrysler once again proves why it stands out from the competition. It not only excels in the vehicles it manufacturers but in the way it does business.
