Chrysler Group collected a record number of new mittens and gloves to support Mittens for Detroit. Employees managed to collect 35,000 pairs in less than four weeks to give to the local charity.
Erin Cummings, founder of the nonprofit and an actress, was impressed with the generosity of the staff of Chrysler Group. She even went so far to say that she will only be driving Chrysler vehicles from now on. The organization has been in existence for five years and has collected over 55,000 pairs, which were distributed to 13 different agencies based in Detroit. These agencies include Covenant House of Michigan and the Michigan Veterans Foundation. They also work with several special projects that are chosen anew every year. For 2014, this included Capuchin Soup Kitchen and Operation Get Down, among others.
Chrysler Group’s steering committee set a goal to collect 18,000 pairs of mittens and gloves, which was just over the goal of Mittens for Detroit in 2013. Employees almost doubled that number with their 35,000 pairs. The donation is just another way that Chrysler Group and its employees are dedicated to the communities it serves.
